In a world divided by all kinds of differences, Singapore sets the perfect example of how people of different colour, religions, nationalities and varied cultural identities can live together in harmony and work towards a united goal. The original inhabitants of Singapore were Malay fishermen. The arrival of Sir Stamford Raffles and the establishment of a trading post attracted immigrants and traders from all over. Hence people came from the southern provinces of China, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Ceylon and the Middle East. As a result the population of four million comprises 76.9% Chinese, 14% Malays, 7.7% Indians and 1.4% Eurasians and people of other descent. All the people consider themselves to be Singaporeans though they have maintained their own individualistic customs and traditions. There are still certain areas occupied by people of a particular ethnicity. Each of these areas has preserved the flavours of it's ethnicity and hence Singapore comes across as a rainbow depicting the various customs and cultures Business hours
